(from the brief) There are a few particular things we want to highlight about Colombia through the book. The first is the mix of Spanish, African and indigenous influences that brings itself to the culture, and especially musical styles like cumbia and traditional vallenato. The second is the diversity of the environment, ranging from land covered in rivers to deserts and mountains, and also how this then informs the culture. And the last is simply the sheer quality and depth of the music, the number of styles and rhythms, the different instruments, and the traditions of these forms of music.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT  Sounds and Colours - A UK-based South American music and culture website; launched its first ever print edition, focusing on the music and culture of Colombia. We had the opportunity to create the cover of the book. (part of the brief) There are a few particular things we want to highlight about Colombia through the book. The first is the mix of Spanish, African, and indigenous influences that brings itself to the culture, and especially musical styles like cumbia and traditional vallenato. The second is the diversity of the environment, ranging from land covered in rivers to deserts and mountains, and also how this informs the culture. And the last is simply the sheer quality and depth of the music, the number of styles and rhythms, the different instruments, and the traditions of these forms of music. Other clue elements used in the final design were: A picó sound system to represent the African influence on the Atlantic coast, The Barranquilla Carnival bull, The marimba - the sound of música pacífica, Los Viajes del Viento (colombian film)
