We had the pleasure of working with Oatly’s design team to create some illustrations and lettering pieces for promotional marketing materials for the different events and trade shows they will have in Europe and North America in 2022. The main idea was to explore a vintage look inspired by more traditional graphics (more grandma-like) and color palettes and mix them with existing oatly visual assets. The goal was to create something new and fresh while keeping the same crafted and humorous language that the brand uses in different communication pieces.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT  Oatly AB is the world’s original and largest oat drink company. For over 25 years, they have exclusively focused on developing expertise around oats: a global power crop with inherent properties suited for sustainability and human health. Their commitment to oats has resulted in core technical advancements that enabled us to unlock the breadth of the dairy portfolio, including alternatives to milks, ice cream, yogurt, cooking creams, and spreads. Headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, the OATLY brand is available in more than 20 countries globally.

Working with Oatly’s design team, we created a series of illustrations and lettering pieces applied to marketing collateral for various events scheduled in Europe and North America to help promote their new products. The main concept takes inspirational cues from 1970s graphics and color palettes combined with the existing Oatly brand elements. It was important to signal a refreshed look, but we also wanted to retain the humorous brand language Oatly is known for.

Handmade sketches and lettering were part of the process during the first round of explorations using only black and white sonce these graphics needed to be applied in different formats and colors. After we finished the assets and patterns the focus was on color and texture and finally to create all the final print files.

What a fun project!
